Associate degree online 

An Associate degree is a kind of undergraduate degree that has a minimum requirement of sixty semester credit hours. It allows students to get a feel of their chosen career course and see if it is right for them before committing to lengthier full-time courses of study. Getting an Associate degree online is the answer to students who wish to improve their knowledge and earning power in a chosen field, but do not have the time to do attend regular classes in a traditional school setting.

An Associate degree online program has three major sections: general education compulsory requirements, major subject requirements and electives. Students can choose to earn their Associate degree online at their own pace. A full-time course is equivalent to two years (fifteen semester credit hours) or four semesters. Students also have the option of pursuing an accelerated Associate degree online from most online schools.

Many employers looking to hire people for technology mid-level positions prefer someone who has obtained an Associate of Applied Sciences degree, which is an occupational associate degree.

Students can choose to earn an Associate degree online from any of four main categories.

Associate of Arts degree (A.A)

The Associate of Arts degree consists of sixty semester college-level credits. Most of the courses taken in an AA degree program that is accredited qualify the student to transfer to university or a four-year college.

Associate of Science degree (A.S)

The Associate of Science degree also consists of sixty semester college-level credits. The AS program prepares students to embark on careers right away or transfer to universities for a bachelor degree program that focuses on math and science. Most of the courses taken in an AS degree program that is accredited qualify the student to transfer to university or a four-year college.

Associate of Applied Science degree (A.A.S)

The Associate of Applied Science degree prepares graduates for job advancement or career entry after completing college study for two years. Students who obtain AAS degrees have a choice of transferring in part or wholly to any four-year college course if they want to or alternatively they can enter the job market upon obtaining their AAS degree. Many AAS degrees are occupational specific such as Associate in Business, Associate in Engineering Technology.

Associate in Occupational Studies degree (A.O.S)

The Associate in Occupational Studies degree is somewhat similar to the AAS. To earn an AOS degree students require sixty semester credits, most of which are in the chosen major. AOS are not designed for transfer to any traditional bachelor degree programs.
